Wed 5 Sept day trip to Gulmarg or more sightseeing in Srinagar
Thu 6 Sept drive to Leh via overnight stop at Kargil: The most dramatic part of the 434km
Srinagar-Leh road is the ascent up the 11,500 ft (3505m) high Zoji-la, the pass in the
Great Himalayan Wall that serves as the gateway to Ladakh
Fri 7 Sept drive to Leh (capital of Ladakh) - amazing mountain geology en route
Sat 8 Sept in Leh - local sightseeing - Buddhist monasteries in striking locations
Sun 9 Sept drive to Pangong Tso (= long, narrow, enchanted lake) - five-hour drive, most of it on
a rough and dramatic mountain road - close to the border so permits required.
or Nubra Valley - a high altitude desert with scant vegetation except where villages are irrigated
and fertile, producing wheat, barley, peas, mustard for oil, and a variety of fruits and nuts, including
apple, walnut, apricot and even a few almond trees.
or could just drive as far as Khardung La (pass at 17500 ft) 40km from Leh
Mon 10 Sept drive back to Leh
Tue 11 Sept drive to Manali via overnight stop at Keylong: this rugged 470km road goes over three
massive passes, the highest, Taglang La, at 5330 metres (over 17,000 feet). "It's a
tough-drive, but absolutely gorgeous."

Thu 13 Sept Manali is a major fruit growing area - plums, pears, apples....
Fri 14 Sept Drive to Simla,
Sat 15 Sept Simla was the summer capital of the British and retains much of that legacy
Sun 16 Sept drive to Dehradun
